Mission

TAR’s mission is to power intelligence for the world. We are building the world’s first off-grid power plant for data centers powered by renewable technologies.

We firmly believe AI should be built in the US for the benefit of all people. For that, power must be fast, clean and scalable. We are singularly focused on delivering GW-scale power faster than anyone has ever done, by rethinking every layer of the stack.

We vertically integrate to solve every bottleneck, from racking systems to power electronics to dispatch algorithms to on-site construction.

Leave your mark on the future of civilization-scale energy infrastructure.

Company

TAR is both a hardware and software company, we are building out massive, critical, physical infrastructure. TAR is working directly with one of the largest compute providers to scale and deploy 5GWs by 2028.

We operate on…

  • High ownership. High Agency. Own project end-to-end. Great people don’t need to be managed.
  • Speed. We achieve great things on incredible timelines. We push ourselves to go faster.
  • First principles. No ego. No hierarchy. Challenge every assumption.
  • Passion. Solving the energy problem is one of the largest challenges that faces the world now and in the future.

About the role

As Construction Lead, you own how TAR builds in the field: what it costs, in what order it happens, and how fast it can go. Your first job is to sharpen our construction cost estimates for PV+BESS and to rework construction sequencing so we take every possible day out of the schedule. Because TAR runs an owner-led, EPCM-as-agent delivery model, you work directly with engineering, procurement, and field crews rather than reviewing a contractor’s plan from a distance. As we scale toward 5GW, you will build out TAR’s broader construction organization. This is a role for an experienced constructor, based in Austin with regular time at the project site in West Texas.

Responsibilities

  • Build bottoms-up construction cost estimates for utility-scale PV+BESS projects, covering labor, equipment, materials, productivity rates, and indirects, and keep them current as designs and markets change.
  • Own the construction sequence from mobilization through mechanical completion, and find every way to compress it: parallel workfaces, crew loading, laydown and logistics, and delivery timing.
  • Pressure-test EPC and subcontractor bids, schedules, and change orders against your own estimates and sequencing, and push back where the numbers don’t hold.
  • Feed construction knowledge back into design and procurement early, so racking, BESS, and power electronics decisions are made with installability and speed in mind.
  • Track installed cost and production rates in the field, compare them to estimate, and close the loop on the next project.
  • Build TAR’s construction organization as we grow: define the roles, hire the team, and set the standards for how we estimate, plan, and execute in the field.

Qualifications

  • Proven ability to estimate construction costs for utility-scale PV+BESS projects, from early conceptual budgets through detailed bottoms-up estimates.
  • Deep understanding of construction sequencing on utility-scale sites, including the critical path, crew productivity, and the trade-offs between speed, cost, and risk.
  • Project management and/or construction management experience at a constructor or EPC.
  • 7+ years of experience in construction of utility-scale energy projects.
  • Proficiency in Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project, and comfort building estimates and models from scratch.
  • Sound judgment with a bias toward action, comfortable making high-consequence decisions with incomplete information on a compressed schedule.

Nice to have

  • Experience on multi-hundred-megawatt projects.
  • Experience delivering medium-large scale microgrids or multi-generation source projects.
  • Experience building and leading a construction team or estimating function.
  • Owner-side experience at a developer or IPP.

Salary and Benefits

  • Up to $15K relocation bonus
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Health, Dental, Vision insurance
  • $1K monthly stipend for meals
